Today we visited
Children's Fairyland, which first opened its doors (or shoe, to be exact) in 1950. In the early 50's Fairyland had a few important visitors. One was my Grandma Debbie, who came to visit here in 1952 when she was visiting her cousins who lived in San Francisco. Another was Walt Disney, who cited it as one of his inspirations when he opened the Magic Kingdom a few years later.

Fairyland is less than a mile from home and right on Lake Merritt. You can see downtown in the distance.

Along with the rides and activities based on fairytales (including the Jolly Trolley),

we saw some real live animals just like the ones I read about in my books. I was excited to see the bunnies and the chickens, but I didn't want to get too close to the goats. They looked like they might like to start nibbling away at me. Fortunately, Dada and Rosemary gave them some yummy snacks to distract them.

We had so much fun, well... it went straight to our heads.
